About the Department

MEDICAL DEPARTMENT at WESTERN COALFIELDS LIMITED is a dedicated unit responsible for all health-related aspects of the company's workforce. Its primary purpose is to protect and promote the health of employees, minimize health-related business risks, and ensure compliance with occupational health regulations. WESTERN COALFIELDS LIMITED has a robust and well-equipped Medical Department providing Primary and Secondary Medical facilities to all employees and their eligible dependents free of cost through its 11Area / Central Hospitals and 26 Dispensaries spread across in 250 kms radius from Nagpur. The 11 Area / Central Hospitals and 26 Dispensaries are well equipped with important medical equipment and managed by efficient doctors and paramedical staff. In addition to this, tertiary medical facilities are also provided by Hospitals empaneled the by Coal India Limited all over India at the cost of the Company for employees and their eligible dependents.

Educational Qualifications MBBS DMCH Date of Joining CIL 17th January 1992 Career Journey in CIL -Worked in SECL from 1992 to 2009 then from 2009 till date in WCL Date of Assuming Charge as HOD - 1st May 2024 Notable Achievements during your Tenure - As CMS I/C Occupational Health wing 1st of its kind in CIL is established. Done Procurement of equipment for occupational Health centers of all Areas of WCL. Started 4 Jan aushadhi kendra JAK and one Amrit Pharmacy in WCL. 2 more AMRIT pharmacies are going to open soon in Pathakheda and Chandrapur area Hospitals. SWASTH PORTAL One of its kind in WCL is launched and is operational successfully. SWASTH PORTAL is an online real time patient monitoring system for patients referred to CIL Empaneled Hospitals. Portal is prepared inhouse. Real time tracking of bills is possible to all empaneled hospitals. Dispensary Management System started in WCL HQ Dispensary, and we are going to start it soon in all dispensaries. Besides CSR Camp, Village and school health camps started for general public of nearby villages. Pit Head Camps in all mines for health checkup of all core workers who do not visit Hospitals in between periodic checkup. Pink Dispensary (only female employee Dispensary) is inaugurated.

Preventive and Promotive Health

WCL involves practices in maintaining environmental sanitation, ensuring safe drinking water, controlling diseases, and conducting regular health screenings and wellness programs to promote healthy lifestyles for its employees at mining areas and the residential colonies.

Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational Health Services are specialized healthcare services designed to promote and maintain the health and well-being of workers in their workplace typically provided by occupational health professionals, such as occupational health physicians, nurses and safety professionals. WCL has its independent Occupational Health Wing, the first of its kind in CIL for ensuring occupational health & safety in mines. PME of regular & contractual employees are conducted as per Mines Rules 1955 and Recommendations of National Safety Conferences in all areas of WCL. All new recruits (regular & contractual) have to undergo Initial Medical Examination (IME) before deployment in mines.

Curative Services

Dispensaries within mining areas and Area Hospitals provide immediate and ongoing care for occupational injuries and non-work-related illnesses. Services often include general consultations, wound care, and managing urgent medical situations. Western Coalfields Limited is providing medical facilities to all employees and their eligible dependents through its 11 Area/Central Hospitals and 35 Dispensaries, free of cost. In addition to this, tertiary medical facilities are also provided by Hospitals empaneled by Coal India Limited all over India at the cost of the Company for employees and their eligible dependents.

Medical Examinations

Periodical Medical Examination is conducted for all Workers including Contractual Workers once in every 3 years. During PME the employees are screened for all the Diseases including Occupational Health Disease (respiratory disease). Further Medical Treatment is provided to Contractual Workers in Company Hospitals and dispensaries free of cost to the extent of available resources. To identify health hazards of employees Annual Health Check-ups for all employees above 50 years deployed in active mining areas are being conducted. Further, personal health counseling for employees deployed in all active operational areas requiring higher level of alertness is also conducted by Colliery Medical Officers. Regular Apex Medical Board, Occupational Board, PPD board and Age determination Boards are conducted by medical department

Welfare & CSR Camps

All areas are doing Camps in nearby Villages, schools and Colonies to take care of health of general public also. Camps for Tuberculosis eradication, Camps for Blood Donation Cancer Detection Camp, Camps for employees. Medical department is arranging awareness programs and lectures regarding Tuberculosis, Cancer, non communicable diseases, Organ donation awareness and lifestyle diseases etc
