About the Department

The Quality Control (QC) Department of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) functions under the overall supervision of the General Manager (Quality Control) and operates across all Areas of WCL. Its primary objective is to ensure the coal supplied to the consumers is as per the declared grade and to maintain transparency in quality assessment. Functions of QC Deptt: • Implementation of SOPs and corrective measures for coal grade materialization and improvement through Quality sensitization programs. • Monitoring and reconciling grade discrepancies and Consumer grievances redressal using online reconciliation system. • Maintaining and monitoring all the Coal Analysis Results of all Areas and creating CR/DR notes to the consumers in the ERP and also resolve any issue of the same in ERP. • Maintaining all 11nos of NABL-accredited Laboratories. • Implementation of SOPs and corrective measures for coal grade materialization and improvement through Quality sensitization programs. • Monitoring and reconciling grade discrepancies and Consumer grievances redressal, using online reconciliation system. • Maintaining and monitoring all the Coal Analysis Results of all Areas and creating CR/DR notes to the consumers in the ERP and also resolve any issue of the same in ERP.

Shri. Deepak V. Walke

General Manager (Mining)/QC

Shri Deepak V. Walke, HOD and General Manager (Mining)/QC, holds a BE in Mining and an M-Tech degree. He joined Coal India Limited on 3rd June 1994 and has served in multiple subsidiaries, including SECL and WCL, in key roles such as Colliery Manager, Sub Area Manager, and General Manager (Operation). He assumed charge as Head of Department on 7th July 2025. During his tenure, he has led significant initiatives, including the implementation of sampling for total WCL dispatches and the commencement of Mechanical Auger Sampling across various Areas of WCL.
